A Chemical Attractant for Glischrochilus quadrisignatus (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae)

Abstract
Both males and females of Glischrochilus quadrisignatus (Say) were attracted to traps containing butyl acetate, a chemical component of many fruits. In field attractancy trials, butyl acetate in combination with light paraffin oil in a polyethylene bag attracted beetles longer than did other devices used to release the chemical. Over 5–12 day periods, butyl acetate was nearly as effective as some food baits commonly used to attract G. quadrisignatus, and was better than others. Chemical compounds structurally similar to butyl acetate were not as attractive to beetles. A related species, G. fasciatus (Olivier) was attracted to food baits, but not to butyl acetate.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
