Abstract
The distribution and host plants of eight neotropical species of Scolytidae in the genera Chramesus, Pseudochramesus, Phloeotribus and Cladoctonus are given. The known host plant families of all Central and South American species in these genera are tabulated. The gallery systems and life histories of Ps. opacus, Ph. pilula, Ph. rudis and Ph. nanus are described in detail. The effects of attack density, desiccation, parasites, predators and competition on the development of the gallery systems and the survival of the immature stages are discussed. None of the species studied are thought to be of economic importance.
