Abstract
The potential of 2-lithio-1,3-dithiane reactions for the introduction of corticoid and related C-17 functions into the steroid nucleus has been explored. Although attempts to effect the direct addition of the dithiane reagents to C-17 ketones met with limited success, reactions of C-17 spiroepoxides were found to provide a convenient entry into routes to homocorticoid compounds.
