Abstract
Pretreatment of mice with different preparations of zymosan modified the lethality of a subsequent endotoxin challenge, ranging from increased resistance to increased susceptibility, with equivalent reticuloendothelial system stimulation. Greater relative sensitivity to intravenous than to intraperitoneal endotoxin challenge was found regardless of the zymosan used. Both zymosans differed from endotoxin in that they produced monophasic fevers in rabbits and did not elicit an acute leucopenia. Keywords
