INTERRELATIONSHIPS OF SOME METABOLIC EFFECTS OF TESTOSTERONE PROPIONATE IN NORMAL MALES DURING RESTRICTED SODIUM INTAKE 12

Abstract
Balance data from 5 subjects indicate that weight gain, water, and K retention were disproportionate to the small amount of N retention during the first 5 days of testosterone administration, and were more nearly proportional to N retention during the 2nd 5 days. There was no significant Na or chloride retention during the first 5 days of hormone administration. Weight and water were lost during the first 5 days after withdrawal of the hormone dispite the fact that N balance was still positive and there was no loss of Na or chloride. The results suggest that in the absence of significant Na and chloride retention, testosterone propionate predominently affects the water balance first, K balance second, and N balance third, while withdrawal of the hormone reverses the effects in the same sequence.
