Abstract
Study was made of 18 cases of acute pancreatitis and classification on etiological and anatomical grounds into those due to duct obstruction, vascular obstruction and infection, with all tending to develop hemorrhage from action of trypsin on blood vessel walls, regardless of mode of origin. The majority were undiagnosable as pancreatitis and would probably have recovered so far as disease of the pancreas was concerned, leading to the common state of fibrosis of the pancreas. Metaplasia of duct epithelium is studied and discussed and illustrations given of the manner of its origin and influence upon the ducts.
