Abstract
The fraction of ions relative to particles emitted from a thin source in coincidence with x rays from the daughter product Pb has been measured. The result, , does not support an earlier proposal that 65% of the -vacancy production is due to electron pickup. Uncertainties in source composition and the electron-pickup hypothesis are discussed.
