Abstract
Many plants reflect physiological occurrences in the levels of total non-structural carbohydrates (TNC) they retain. S. alterniflora was sampled monthly during a year''s growth for TNC content. Values changed little during the year ranging from 4-10% of the total dry weight. Spartina transforms the greatest portion of its reduced C to structural components. This more refractory organic matter is then released upon the death of the plant to the detrital food chain. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
