Arteriographic Evidence of Spasm in Cerebral Vascular Disorders

Abstract
Arteriographic evidence of spasm consists of visualizing either narrowing of the vessel or abrupt blocking of its flow. When narrowing or blocking was later released, the authors considered that it had been due to spasm. Illustrative arteriograms are reproduced. The arteriographic evidence of spasm in the intracranial courses of the internal carotid arteries and their main branches is classified according to reliability. Since such evidence of spasm is demonstrabl in about 90% of the patients with cerebral stroke, compared with about 10% or less in other cases, the authors consider that such spasm may be significant in the pathogenesis of cerebral vascular disorders.
