Abstract
To the Editor: Disparity between values for circulating carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as measured by the "indirect" radioimmunoassay on perchloric-acid-extracted plasma and the "direct" assay is a well known phenomenon to all involved in reporting out circulating values for CEA on radioimmunoassay.1 , 2 As Dr. Zamcheck's group has so wisely noted, clinicians should be aware of technical difficulties involved in reporting CEA values.2 We have been routinely assaying all plasmas received at Tufts New England Medical Center by both direct and indirect CEA radioimmunoassay. A comparison of the direct and indirect values of plasmas obtained from 232 patients is shown in . . .Keywords
