Abstract
The use of liquid Dulcolax (bisacodyl) which is non-toxic, and acts selectively on the colon, is recommended in place of tannic acid for barium enema examinations. The chemistry and pharmacology of Dulcolax is mentioned. A survey of 150 patients subjected to Ba enema examination is presented. The method and materials used are discussed. The advantages of this new technique are listed. The value and need for mucosal studies and double contrast examination of the colon are reviewed. The toxicity resultant upon the use of tannic acid is stressed. Keywords
