Abstract
Dr W.E. Deming's seventh point states ‘Teach and institute leadership’ (revised 1-10-90). This seems like such a simple task, yet lack of leadership is consistently listed as one of the three major problems in organizations in which the author consults. The other two major problems are poor communication and inadequate training. Indeed, a perusal of current management literature readily shows the popularity of the subject. There are perhaps more titles on the subject of leadership than any other single topic. This paper will attempt to address why leadership is important as well as the problems concerning the development of leadership in a ‘Quality’ organization. Keywords
