Magnetic and electric properties ofLa1δMnO3

Abstract
The magnetic phase diagram of La1δMnO3 powdered samples has been studied as a function of δ in the low doping range (δ<0.1).La0.97MnO3 has a canted magnetic structure at low temperature (θ130°). Above TC=118K, it becomes a paramagnet with a huge effective magnetic moment μeff=6.0μB, reflecting the presence of magnetoelastic polarons which are not affected by the magnetic field (up to 20 T) or the temperature 1.2TC<T<2.5TC. When δ is increased to δ=0.09, the system becomes fully ferromagnetic below 170K but remains insulating down to the lowest temperature.
