Supraclavicular Subcutaneous Emphysema Following Lumbar Epidural Anesthesia

Abstract
Epidural anesthesia via the lumbar or sacral approach is widely used for surgical and obstetrical procedures. Although the technique of lumbar epidural anesthesia is relatively simple, problems of epidural space identification and catheter placement arise. A patient is presented in which s.c. emphysema was present in the cervical and supraclavicular regions of a parturient in labor, 6 h after lumbar epidural catheter insertion.
