Abstract
The Newspaper Rock ("Pictograph") sandstone (Chinle: Upper Triassic) of the Petrified Forest National Monument, Arizona, yields a new type of limuloid trail {Kouphichnium arizonae) which is interesting for the perfection of the xiphosurous track detail; for exhibiting in the holotype trail 2 variations of the ectognath imprint, either of which in the past would have been the basis for correlating the trail with a bipedal vertebrate; and finally, for establishing quite certainly the direction in which the track-maker progressed, a matter of previous divergent opinion. The presence of the Xiphosura in the Chinle poses ecologic problems not hitherto considered in evaluating these purportedly wholly continental deposits. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
