Abstract
Host-searching by the egg-larval parasitoid, Chelonus texanus Cresson, revealed that size and shape were not important. A chemical(s) associated with the host egg was found to elicit host-area searching exhibited by antennal palpation of the area around the egg and hostlocation exhibited by ovipositor thrusting and probing. The active material (s) was present on and around host eggs after oviposition and in ovariole tissue. The active material is water soluble, heat stable and not extractable in organic solvents.
