Abstract
Calculations, in the framework of the exciton model, of angle-integrated energy distributions and angular distributions of alpha particles emitted in (nucleon, α) reactions are presented. The reaction mechanism is assumed to be a knock-on process involving α particles pre-formed in the target nucleus. The results obtained indicate that a satisfactory reproduction of the (nucleon, α) process is achieved. The main contribution to the process derives from interactions involving pre-formed α particles of energy comparable with the Fermi one. Keywords
