Abstract
The spin density around a magnetic ion embedded in a nonmagnetic semiconductor matrix is theoretically studied. We show how its properties are related to the band structure of the host. We also predict that for direct-gap semiconductors the spin density must oscillate in sign within a unit cell. Keywords
