Sex Hormones in Mucorales. The Incorporation of C20 and C18 Precursors into Trisporic Acids

Abstract
SUMMARY: 14C-labelled retinol, β-C18-ketone* and 4-hydroxy-β-C18-ketone fed to mixed plus and minus Blakeslea trispora cultures were efficiently incorporated into trisporic acids. This allowed the biosynthetic route from β-carotene to these hormones to be set out, leaving some uncertainties as to the sequence of later steps in the process.
