Abstract
A death education course for large numbers of students (n = 300+) is described. Students were asked to write essay type responses to certain questions as part of a pilot project to develop a testing instrument. Results indicate that the death education course has an effect on improving conscious thinking about death, communication with others about death, etc. Students are most concerned about the pain associated with dying. About 3 per cent of the students were contemplating suicide both at the time of enrollment and after the course ended. Some observations on the students' psychological styles of adaptation to the course were discussed.
