Abstract
A technique is described for measuring the activity of [beta]-D-galactosidase in droplets of microscopic size using a new fluorogenic substrate, 6-hydroxyfluoran-[beta]-D-galactppyranoside (6HFG). Turnover rate, fluorescence tests, and probability statistics have indicated that this method enables the detection of individual molecules of the enzyme. Keywords
