Abstract
The intensity of the 1942‐Å Hg+ ion resonance line in Hg‐inert‐gas discharges has been measured as a function of current density and Hg pressure in the range from 1 to about 15 A/cm2 and pressure from 10−3 to 0.5 Torr. In the Hg–Ar discharge the intensity of this line varies as the 1.75 power of the current density, while in Hg–Kr, the exponent is 2.0. There is evidence for volume recombination which is inhibited when Ar is replaced by Kr.Keywords
