A Decision Model of Conjugal Patterns in Martinique

Abstract
There is a variety of mating patterns among the adult population of Morne-Paysan, a highland village in Martinique. These patterns are distributed sequentially: young adults tend to mate extraresidentially; middle aged persons cohabit, frequently consensually; older persons marry. The sequence is explained in terms of men modifying their behaviour in an attempt to maximise values within the constraints of their peasant economy.
