Abstract
Summary 1. A case of voluntary infection with Schistosoma haematobium is described. The subject was a physician engaged in research on the control of schistosomiasis in Egypt. He kept an accurate record of clinical and laboratory findings from the time of exposure through the period of parasitological cure by chemotherapy, and through subsequent sequelae of the infection. 2. Noteworthy features of the infection are the discharge of eggs in the seminal fluid before they appeared in the urine, the deposition of eggs in the skin of the scrotum and groin, the recovery of adult worms from the subcutaneous tissue of the groin on biopsy, the increase of egg deposition after the infection had passed from the acute to the chronic stage, the failure of two courses of Fouadin to eradicate the infection, and the development of hypertrophy of the prostate gland after parasitological cure by potassium antimony tartrate. 3. The biological aspects of migration of the worms, egg production and chemotherapy are discussed. Keywords
