TRANSPARENT COLORLESS EMBOLI ASSOCIATED WITH DIMETHYLPOLYSILOXANE AS DEMONSTRATED BY PHASE MICROSCOPY AND DARKFIELD ILLUMINATION

Abstract
An intravascular foreign material was seen in tissue sections of human beings dying after experiencing cardiotomy and extracorporeal perfusion in which dimethylpolysiloxane (Dow-Corning Antifoam A) was used as a defoaming agent. The material is similar in appearance to emboli demonstrated in a dog receiving Antifoam A intra-arterially.
