Abstract
Using the “hairbrush sampling” technique, coats of 154 small animals (18 cats, 136 dogs) submitted for veterinary attention to a receiving home in Glasgow were examined for the presence of keratinophilic fungi. None of the animals showed clinical evidence of ringworm infection. Trichophyton terrestre was isolated in 3 instances, once from a cat and twice from dogs. T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes were also isolated from a dog. Approximately 500 isolations of non-keratinophilic fungi were made. Keywords
