Reaction products of primary β‐hydroxy‐amines with carbonyl compounds. VI. Oxazolidines derived from N‐phenylethanolamine

Abstract
N‐Phenylethanolamine condensed easily with aldehydes to give substituted oxazolidine. No reaction could be achieved with ketones. The molecular refraction and the infrared and ultraviolet spectra of the substances were measured. Critical evaluation of the results shows, that in these compounds the molecular refraction can only be used with great caution as a tool in determining the structure. The infrared spectra have been measured by Dr. S. Pinchas, the ultraviolet spectra by Dr. Y. Hirshberg, both of the Optics Department of this Institute.
