Abstract
Simultaneous atherosclerotic manifestations in the superficial femoral artery and in the bifurcation of the aorta and/or the iliac/common femoral arteries are the most common cause of arterial insufficiency in the lower extremities. In most cases there are no changes in the deep femoral artery; consequently, by reestablishing a good flow to this artery, which is very important for the nourishment of the lower extremities, it is possible to avoid a more peripheral intervention. Since 1960 we have applied this principle to 35 patients. Preoperative conditions, results of primary operations, and follow-up investigations are discussed. Keywords
