Abstract
A unified phenomenological description of the propagation of elastic and thermal waves in dielectrics and metals makes use of frequency-dependent transport coefficient for thermal conduction and viscosity. The results of this theory contain as limiting cases the different theoretical and experimental findings reported in the literature. Keywords
