Influence of Medroxyprogesteroneacetate on Testosterone Metabolism by Cultured Human Fibroblasts: A Model for Drug-Steroid Interaction12

Abstract
Medroxyprogesteroneacetate (MPA) was used to study drug-steroid interaction in an in-vitro cell culture system of human skin fibroblasts from prepubertal children. MPA did not alter testosterone utilization in 9 of the 10 cell lines studed. The addition of MPA inhibited the formation of androstanediol by nearly 53% suggesting an inhibition of 3 alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. In 3 cell lines, dihydrotestosterone increased.
