Lipid Localization in the Lung after Induced Lipaemia

Abstract
An electron microscopic study of the lungs of rabbits, fed with fats for a 4-month period, showed an increased number of 2nd type alveolar cells. In each of these there was a sharp increase in the content of osmiophilic inclusions. Fat deposits were not observed in any other alveolar structure. The significance of these findings was discussed on the basis of recent views on the importance of the surface-active lipo-protein of the alveolar surface.
