Formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner Found to Be Contaminated with Chlorinated Hydrocarbon Insecticides1

Abstract
Certain formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis were found to be toxic to Japanese quail when administered in their feed. These formulations were analyzed and found contaminated with a relatively high level of chlorinated hydrocarbons. Approximately 0:1 g of formulation per day caused 75 - 100% mortality of the birds. Removal of these contaminants from one of the formulations rendered that material nontoxic to the birds and continued ingestion of the residue produced no mortality.
