Abstract
Six populations of a putative hybrid Dacrydium have been located within the Tongariro National Park, New Zealand. Cytological and chemical analyses have shown these to F1 hybrids of D. laxifolium and D. intermedium. The hybrid is heterozygous for two paracentric inversions in separate acrocentric chromosomes, and is highly infertile. A small percentage of viable seed is set on the hybrid, but it is suggested that this may be apomictic. The cross has been repeated experimentally. Keywords
