Improved Photocurrent-Voltage Characteristics of Ru(II)-Dye Sensitized Solar Cells with Polypyrrole-Anchored TiO[sub 2] Films

Abstract
The effect of electrodepositing polypyrrole (PPy) onto dye-coated TiO2TiO2 surface on the photocurrent-voltage (JV)(JV) characteristics of dye-sensitized solar cells was studied. It is observed that both open-circuit voltage (Voc)(Voc) and short-circuit photocurrent (Jsc)(Jsc) of PPy-anchored TiO2TiO2 (PPy/TiO2)(PPy/TiO2) solar cells increase, compared to those of a TiO2TiO2 cell. Furthermore, the stability of the JVJV characteristics is enhanced with the modification. The combined effects of reduced back-electron-transfer to I3−I3− ions and negative shift of flatband potential explain the VocVoc increase. Analyses of electrochromic measurements suggest that the JscJsc increase is related to the enrichment of conduction band electrons in the PPy/TiO2PPy/TiO2 electrode. © 2002 The Electrochemical Society.
