Abstract
A new technique is described which utilizes optical pumping in a time-resolved mode to study atomic hydrogen produced by a discharge. Initial measurements provide information about the equlibrium atomic-hydrogen density, its temporal evolution, and the diffusion coefficient for hydrogen atoms in molecular hydrogen. Keywords
