Abstract
The accidental trigger rate, generated in a prompt-coincidence mode of operation, is extensively deployed in atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes as a reliable index of the 'health' of an experimental system. A novel method of estimating this rate in these systems helps to overcome the main shortcomings of the conventional approach, based on staggering outputs of various detector channels with respect to one another. Keywords
