Abstract
[Bovine] collagen-like structures were formed in solutions of .alpha.-elastin after heating to 57.degree. C and after treatment with absolute ethanol. A complex between acetyl-.alpha.-elastin and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide showed a similar structure. Thick fibrils (diameter .apprx. 100 nm), revealed transversal banding with periodicity of 39-62 nm. A possible mechanism for the formation of these fibers is suggested based on hydrophobic interactions. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
