Abstract
Micrococcal nuclease digestion of in situ (intranuclear) and in vitro yeast chromatin produces distributions of DNA molecules of discrete sizes. In both cases, these molecules appear to be integral multiples of the smallest size on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This result implies a widespread generic occurrence of the periodic organization of chromatin seen in mammalian systems. Keywords
