Abstract
Computed Franck Condon factors pertinent to the photoelectron spectrum of methyl radical are discussed. The low frequency spacings in the observed spectra are assigned to transitions between the first and second (bending mode, v 2′) excited states and thus correspond to differences in the bending frequencies of the cation and the radical. The high frequency spacing is assigned as 2v 2′ of the cation. Any barrier to planarity of the radical is lower than the zero point energy of the bending mode. Keywords
