Abstract
We report the first purely electroweak measurement of the strengthening of the electromagnetic coupling, with increasing momentum transfer , by comparing the process with the process . The data were accumulated at an average center-of-mass energy using the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN collider. We measure ) to change from its known value of at at . This result agrees with electroweak predictions.
