Abstract
Countertransference experienced by caregivers who work in rehabilitation of the severely physically disabled is explored. Utilizing a narrow definition of countertransference (= troublesome reactions), two major etiological categories are offered: socially universal and individual. By separating their distressful feelings from counterproductive actions, caregivers may better utilize understanding of their own and their patients’ psychodynamics in developing solutions and management strategies. Keywords
