Abstract
Detailed studies in the northeastern Transvaal karst belt have indicated seven fluctuations from wet to dry during the Quaternary period. Precise dating of these events is as yet impossible but a tentative relative chronology is proposed which will in future be tested in other karst regions of South Africa. Keywords
