Priapism Related to Phenelzine Therapy

Abstract
To the Editor: Tricyclic and monoamine oxidase–inhibitor antidepressants can produce sexual dysfunction,1 but unlike the situation with phenothiazines,2 trazodone is the only antidepressant that is known to produce priapism.3 We describe a patient in whom priapism developed during therapy with phenelzine, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.The patient was a 36-year-old married man with a diagnosis (according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, third edition)4 of agoraphobia with panic attacks. He had no history of serious medical illness and no previous history of sexual dysfunction. The patient was not taking any other medication, and he was not abusing . . .Keywords
