Abstract
The question of the transfer of nuclear ribonucleic acid (RNA) into the cytoplasm was studied by cytochemical methods under various conditions in living and fixed cell nuclei of Acetabularia mediterranea. The various findings make it appear possible that a transfer of RNA from the nucleus into the cytoplasm occurs as a normal physiological process. Ribonucleic acid is concentrated in the cytoplasm in the vicinity of the nucleus and also in the growth zone of the stalk. The concentration in the growth zone is correlated with the growth inducing effect of the cell nucleus. The studies however do not permit it to be decided whether there is a direct relation between the RNA surrounding the nucleus and that of the growth zone. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
