Abstract
A fluorescent-antibody technic was used to identify proteins in urinary casts of eight patients, six of whom had the nephrotic syndrome. Tamm-Horsfall urinary mucoprotein was identified in matrix of all casts. Serum proteins of wide variation in configuration and molecular size were identified only in cast granules. Cast granules may represent aggregated serum proteins, and the current hypothesis regarding the genesis of granular casts may need to be re-evaluated.Keywords
