Abstract
The 14C-c-AMP production by human subcutaneous adipose tissue biopsies has been measured in response to noradrenaline and in groups of 12 uncontrolled and 9 insulin-controlled diabetics and contrasted with that of 10 non-diabetic controls obtained during an operation. With in vitro incubated normal human adipose tissue, measurements following the addition of noradrenaline showed a tenfold increase in the cellular content of 14C-c-AMP at 10-40 min after the noradrenaline, and preceding their release of glycerol. Addition of insulin to the incubate prevented both these effects. Subcutaneous adipose tissue from uncontrolled diabetics showed increased adenyl cyclase activity and decreased phosphodiesterase activity, while tissue from insulin-controlled diabetics showed these enzyme activities in the normal range. Keywords
