Abstract
Of 93 human and 7 animal strains of L. monocytogenes typed, the most prevalent type was 4b, occurring 3 times more often than type 1. Only 14 of the 93 human strains were published as case histories indicating that the infection is more prevalent than is indicated by the number of cases reported in the literature. A table showing the number of strains submitted by various states shows a marked concentration of recognized cases in Louisiana. Keywords
