Abstract
The synthesis of N,N'-bis(2'-formyl-4'-nitrophenyl)-1,3-diaminopropane is described. This dialdehyde (2) and the previously described ethylene analogue (1) have been used in reactions of nickel(11), cobalt(11), and copper(11) acetates and 1,2-diaminoethane, 1,3-diaminopropane, 1,3-diamino-2-methylpropane, 1,2-diamino-oyclohexane, and 1,2-diaminobenzene, and these reactions have afforded a variety of metal complexes of ten macrocyclic ligands (5)-(14). These ligands contain 14-, 15-, or 16-membered rings.
