Cholestyramine: An Effective, Twice-Daily Dosage Regimen

Abstract
Nine patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (type II hyperlipoproteinemia) and 2 normal volunteers were studied to ascertain the effectiveness of cholestyramine in lowering plasma cholesterol when a twice-a-day oral dosage regimen was compared with the same total dosage administered 4 times a day. In these subjects the 2 regimens were equally effective. The ability to administer cholestyramine twice daily in working adult and school children should greatly enhance adherence to this agent.
