Abstract
A review of autopsy files and clinical case reports demonstrated 2 categories of splenic abscess. First, the abscesses discovered at postmortem usually were multiple, small manifestations of widespread, lethal infection in immunologically crippled hosts. A clinical diagnosis was seldom made. Second, the splenic abscesses encountered by the clinican were usually solitary, large and challenged his diagnostic skills. Recognition was of vital importance, for therapy can be highly successful. Left untreated, the mortality rate was very high. The features, clinical management and pathogenesis of splenic abscesses were discussed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
